"Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets disease." We read this in textbooks during childhood. Back then, I used to wonder - who even suffers from vitamin D deficiency?

During the corona period, when I studied deeply, I understood many hidden truths. Even though ours is a tropical country, the majority of people here suffer from vitamin D deficiency.

It is not just rickets. Mood swings, hair fall, weakness, and many other health issues are linked to it.

Vitamin B12 Deficiency

We studied about B-complex vitamins in civils preparation. But only during the corona period did I deeply understand the importance of Vitamin B12.

Many vegetarians in our country suffer from B12 deficiency. This can worsen immunity and overall health.

Potassium Deficiency

During last year's Dasara holidays, we went on a Rajasthan-Agra tour. From the third day onward, I started getting severe muscle cramps.

I had been doing gym regularly for a long time. Everything was fine until the tour disrupted my routine.

At home, I eat almonds and walnuts every morning. During the tour, I missed those foods. I also ate fewer bananas and dairy products. That imbalance triggered the deficiency.

Since returning, I made banana a daily part of my diet.

Can diabetics eat bananas? Yes - in moderation and with proper meal planning.

But eating banana on top of a heavy rice meal can spike blood sugar. Balance matters.
